    Forum Description

There are four main categories of FFL types: dealer, manufacturer, importer, and other. Which one is best for you? Let's break it down so you can decide which is best for your purposes.

Type 1 and Type 2 FFL

Both types one and two are for gun dealers. Type one is the most basic license, giving you access to buy and sell firearms. Type two is very similar to type one but is directed towards pawnbrokers. Both of these licenses have one big drawback: you cannot manufacture guns for sale (even guns that come in kits) and you cannot sell NFA items (like suppressors). When we got our first FFL, it was a type one.

    Type 3 FFL

This FFL is designed for those who collect old guns (generally guns older than 50 years and some semi-auto military arms). This license does not allow you to buy or sell guns.

    Type 6 FFL

If you're into making small arms ammunition, this is your FFL type. That's all this license allows you to do: make ammunition.

    Type 7 FFL

This is probably the most popular FFL today. This license allows you to make ammunition, manufacture guns, and buy, sell, and repair guns. If you add an SOT (Special Occupancy Tax stamp) to this license, you can also sell NFA items. This is the license we currently hold, along with an SOT.

    Type 8 FFL

Importing ammo and guns? Then this is the license for you.

    Type 9, 10, and 11 FFL

This license is for dealers of "destructive devices". Sounds kinda fun! Really, this is a catchall for all kinds of fun stuff: grenades, artillery, semi-auto shotguns, exploding ammo, and more. If you want to make destructive devices, then you'll want the Type 10 FFL. To import destructive devices, you'll need the Type 11 FFL.
