    Forum Description

Having an issue with coating turning brown in the oven? It usually occurs with lighter colors and can be caused by a couple of different things:

    •  Equipment Issues
      • Your oven must have a circulating fan
      • A fan will circulate the air, normally from top to bottom, which keeps the heat from pooling at the top of the oven
      • The air movement prevents hot spots and gives a more consistent color
    • Cook Temperatures
      • The Cerakote instruction book provides you the ranges for cooking H series. The one for metal says you can either bake it at 250° for 2 hours or 300° for 1 hour. The problem with that is that some colors max out at 250°. Click here for the Cerakote Tech Sheets for a detailed list of times and temps for each Cerakote color
      • We recommend that you print the Tech Sheets out and use them as a guide before spraying a color you aren’t familiar with.
